I had a check engine light on my 2007 Corvette and did not want to take a chance of spending a huge amount of money on a mechanic fixing it. When the scanner arrived, I immediately went to the garage and connected it to the OBD2 port on the Vette. It immediately gave me a P0455 error. I then looked up the error online, and found that the most common cause of the error is a bad gas cap so I went to the auto part store, bought a new gas cap and replaced the old cap and started back home. 1 minute into driving back home, the check engine light disappeared! The total cost of fixing the issue was $27 including the cost of the scanner and gas cap! Buy it!The scanner works great and was able to delete a "false negative"--it told me exactly what the culprit was and what needed to be adjusted. Was my radiator compliant? The scanner proved that it was fine. I then was able to reset the dashboard reading whereby the "check engine" light was no longer on. Previously, it taunted me to take it to a dealer. Right? The dealer would have charged $100 just for the reading. Hello? If I never use it again, the scanner already saved me big bucks--!After replacing a hose that was causing a vacuum problem that threw an engine check light, the check light would not turn off after several cold starts. I needed something to get basic information to diagnose the problem without spending hundreds of dollars. With the help of YouTube and this device, I was able to determine we had a lean condition that exceeded the Long Term Fuel Trim (LTFT) value of +30%, but was not currently reaching that level--more around 10% now. The 30% was probably triggered by the vacuum leak in the air intake hose, but there was something else causing an additional problem, as the LTFT value should be within +/-5% to be normal.I suspected it was a dirty injector (fuel delivery) once I eliminated every other possibility for a vacuum leak. So I got some Lucas injector cleaner and kept adding 5oz each tankful while on a road trip. I was able to monitor the LTFT value over the course of several tanks and I watched the value slowly return to normal values. It was clear the problem was injector fouling.A mechanic would have removed the injectors and cleaned them with a machine for hundreds of dollars, perhaps even suggested it was something else not needing replacement like a catalytic converter which could cost over a $1000 or even replace a fuel pump.Point is, this device and a little research online helped me cheaply solve my problem and quieted a lot of anxiety.Additionally, I will now be able to know ahead of an inspection whether my car can pass emissions. I watched over the period of many miles and cold starts the engine was conducting and passing emission tests. Two last checks took a long time, but even they passed after a while. I now know my engine can pass a state emissions test. This device also allows me to clear the engine light. (That's not something you want to do right before an emissions test. Just as you can with this cheap device, they can certainly see when the engine light was last cleared on their more expensive equipment. They won't pass you until your engine has run and passed most of the checks they are concerned with.) Clearing the code with the device is safer than clearing the light by disconnecting the battery which also clears drivability data and other stored data like clock and radio. Your car will have to relearn your driving habits over time to accommodate you more efficiently.Clearing the codes lets you see if your car will redetect the problem, and the device will read the new engine conditions at the precise moment that code is thrown. That's very helpful to diagnosing the problem. This device doesn't diagnose, but it reads parameters from your engine computer that can help you diagnose the problem. The device does read and present engine live data, but only in dynamically changing numbers, no time line graphics that are easier to see. If you can't picture numbers dynamically changing over time in your head, then a graphic display feature on a more expensive device would be more expedient for you. Some diagnostic procedures require quick throttle and see what the parameter does over time after you release throttle. A graphic would be more helpful in that regard. The devicelets you click scroll through a long list of engine parameters it's monitoring. It does this in a sublist, a few parameters at a time. You can't see all the data at once, or move two parameters side by side to compare like some more sophisticated scanners can do. It's a little inconvenient, but I just assumed this was a basic scanner without a lot of those kind of luxury features. I've managed to get by with it. Also, the scrolling of the data is one direction, down the list. So you have to go all the way through the list to get to one you already passed. That was a little annoying but not a deal breaker. It just depends on what you want. I wanted a cheap device to let me get codes and live data from my engine and help diagnose fuel delivery and vacuum issues. This device did that and more. So for the money, it gave me every thing I needed. It paid for itself the first time I used it. And now I don't need to hassle the clerks at the parts store for a check engine light anymore. I'm happy with it. Great basic low cost engine scanner. 5 stars!I purchased this to find a check engine light code and used it one time. It worked fine and I found the issue, a simple repair. I'm sure it'll be used again.I used it to get an idea what made the check engine light come on and to use the result to search for possible solutions.works great for what I need it for. best bang for your buck forsureCompact unit that allow one to view error codes, freeze frame data, live data and the I/M (emissions) monitors. Toss it in the console or glove box and you'll be able to pull up codes when on the road if needed.Very easy to use and ensured that all my OBDs were ready for the SMOG check after my drive cycle preparationStraight forward and simple diagnostic tool for when you have a gremlin in your engine. I got my brother one of these because of the plug- in and go approach this tool has. I updated the unit very easily when I first go it and found that it runs on pretty much anything with an OBDII connection including early fords when they had not standardised the protocols yet. after clearing all the old faults from my car and running the tests, I was able to track down an unknown issue of my throttle position sensor being out of alignment and then gained some additional acceleration out of the exercise. Very little to go wrong with this and unlike the Blue-tooth variants, you do not need a phone to get results. If you have ABS and traction control issues, go for the 519, as this one does basic Engine, Airbag and service stuff. It does show you all the engine telemetry if your car has the sensors for it and the list of supported sensors on this is adequate for the weekend mechanics out there. The product seems well made and is a well known brand. Unfortunately, my car engine has been cutting out intermittently and despite the engine warning light being displayed it did not show any fault codes. However, when the breakdown recovery company connected their (admittedly much more expensive) OBD II diagnostic equipment it, found 5 error codes. This gives me the impression that the reader is as good as useless.I bought this tool to help me to diagnose a persistent problem on my Alfa. The tool is easy enough to use, but it does require some knowledge of how the systems work and some research (on the internet) to actually diagnose a problem. It is also very useful for resetting those one-off warning lights that lock on and inhibit other functions.Naturally it isn't everything that your garage has in their test equipment, but those cost thousands. For me, this device was a perfect compromise between functionality and price.I have a 2014 seat Leon ST 1.6 TDI with a glow plug that goes occasional open circuit & brings up the engine management amber warning light . I did take my car into a garage & they could not remove the glow plug without taking the cylinder head off as the plug is stuck tight & that is rather an expensive job . So bought this gadget to clear the intermittent fault code & it works a treat .Not working properly with my Corsa 66
