I love it it scans books wonderfullyOverall its really neat to see how easy it is to scan with this little thing. Tap the scan button slide over the image and tap scan again and you're done. I've scanned various loss pieces of paper such as invoices and receipts and its always worked well. Overall I think the scanned images are very good and much better than other portable scanners that I've used. That being said there are a few shortcomings with the device. The battery life is unacceptable. The main problem with the battery life is that the batteries have to be nearly full for the scanner to work, other wise the unit just shuts down. The original batteries that were included with the scanner lasted for about 10 to 15 scans over a 3 day period before not working. Surprised, I put the batteries in a tester and they all showed "Good" but they would not work in the scanner. I then tried a new set of Duracell's which again only lasted for about 10 scans before not being able to work, and again the Duracell's showed "Good" on the battery charger. I am currently using energizer re-chargeable batteries but those need to be full charged the night before you use them. Even waiting a day or two the batteries will drain and the scanner wont work. The company needs to make a better internal battery for the unit. I would gladly sacrifice size and weight for a longer battery. The unit cannot be powered from a computers USB port. When connected to a USB port, The scanner can scan directly to a windows computer using a USB cable, but this doesn't work the way I'd normally use the scanner. IRISCan uses something they call Scan Direct which allows the user to scan directly to Windows paint and other applications like word. It does not allow the user to scan and image like JPEG or PDF directly to a folder. Also while connected to a computer via USB it does not all the scanner to save images to the memory card. While its not mentioned anywhere on the box or the materials, the scanner will work when powered from a wall outlet. I used the included USB cable and a generic USB outlet adapter to plug it into a wall outlet. The cable is slightly in the way, but it works very well. The scanner looses time stamp settings when you change the batteries. This is annoying since you have to change the batteries everyday. They could have at least put a small watch battery in to save the time stamp settings. Other settings like image color, dpi, and file type have to be configured every time the scanner is turned off. My scanning preference is usually black and white at 600dpi. Since the scanner defaults to color at 300dpi, I have to manually adjust this every time the scanner is powered back on.Overall this unit scans fast and well, and I plan to keep it. I can deal with the shortcomings but I would hope future models would include a better battery and the ability to save time stamp and scan settings.I purchased this scanner to save some significant money on brochure mailings. We have been sending out our full product brochures to potential leads, even though we understand they are only interested in one or two of our products. This scanner is so useful to our Marketing Dept. and allows them to scan only the page (s) of the images of product that our "leads" indicate. While it did take a few attempts at moving slowly down the page to capture, we were able to come away with superb images to send out instead of the whole brochure. My printing costs AND my postage costs have decreased significantly. Happy to report that this scanner has already paid for itself x 3.I was looking forward to having one of these for my research & study in which I need to scan in text & then apply formatting, but this one was a huge disappointment:1) Documentation was on a CD & was terrible. I had to go online & download from the irislink.com website to get a picture of where the battery compartment was & how to open it just to put in the batteries.2) Either the included SD card or the scanner itself were defective. The scanner would not format the SD card. Also powering on the unit with the SD card installed caused the LED display to go blank.3) irislink support website had nothing helpful to help troubleshoot the problem. All that was there was an older PDF user manual & instructions on how to calibrate the scanner which was not even mentioned as needing to be done in the user manual.4) scanner only functioned in USB mode (connected to my laptop), but even then would not scan the entire page of a 6x9 book (black & white text only--no color) which it should have easily done.5) I do not know about the included OCR software as I never got a quality scan of any text to use on it.This product was a total bust for me...I am rather disappointed with the IriScan Book 3 purchased from www.amazon.com. Although both the pre-purchase information and the carton of the product mention that the box contains the software, no software CD or DVD came. Instead, there was an instruction to download and register the software.I downloaded the software, as instructed, but found that I need to purchase the software for an activation code. This is a breach of trust - the software for running the scanner was a part of my purchase. Secondly, as I tried to register the downloaded/installed software, I am asked for a "Product ID" which is not indicated anywhere in the box of the scanner. All I have are serial number, item number, SKU number, and ID (Batch # / Counter #), and I am denied registration. They have an email address for redress but, my email returned saying that this mailbox is not monitored. With this background, what can IriScan do to help me? I would not advise anybody to buy this product.Es lo mejorHad to return this. The scanner doesn't power on unless it's connected to the computer by USB -- even with fresh batteries in it. You're supposed to be able to scan with this connected to the computer, but then on their web site it says this isn't so -- you must scan using batteries and then transfer the scans viua usb. But if this doesn't power up with batteries, in effect it can't be used at all. This could be a defective item, but I think -- while it sounds great -- it may not be worth the money.Set this back post-paid and Amazon refunded me quickly with no problem.Overall is good, software output rtf , May be there are other format I did not notice, recognition software need improve , the hardware is excellentNot as described. No software or detailed instructions supplied (as in photograph). These now have to be downloaded it says but most information not in English. Uses an ancient version of Windows. Screen graphics are very crude and old fashioned. Looks like 1980s technology. Reminiscent of 'Hamburger Shop' game. Refund was fairly prompt but unable to get return postage refund which was £8.95 even though product was not as described on Amazon.I scanned like 1600 pages of staff over 3 days with this thing...it's fine if you need to scan lots of staff likes otherwise a phone with scanning app would make more sense. Battery time is pretty bad, you are looking at 200 pages for 3 AAA batteries. Nothing happened. Tried a different (new) set of batteries. Nothing. Returned to Amazon for refund. Is there any quality control in this company? I will try a different brand. Also:LEUTE, LÖSCHT EURE DATEN MIT EINEM GEEIGNETEN WERKZEUG (Dateishredder), wenn Ihr schon benutzte Ware zurückschickt.Danke für das Album.
